Ye Olde Mitre, Holborn

If you “fancy a proper pint” while visiting London, we’d recommend a visit to Ye Olde Mitre.

Opened in 1547 (that’s not a typo), it offers limited seating both inside and out. It can be a little tricky to find, since it is located in a small alley, so this is not the place you just happen upon. You need to set out in search of it.

We’d recommend navigating the extremely narrow staircase in order to toast with friends at “The Bishop’s Room” upstairs. Its cozy environs are coveted by locals in the know. We arrived in the early afternoon to find it completely empty. However, long before we could finish our drinks it became a standing room only situation.

Food choices are limited to homemade bar snacks, so plan your visit here mostly for the beverages.

We found this to be a great place to stop for a quick respite from sightseeing.

And that’s…Henry’s Take.
