So when several of my Canadian friends heard I was headed North of the border, they insisted that I visit a Tim Hortons for a donut and some coffee. I was only too happy to oblige and found that there seems to be one on about every other street corner.
The specifics of my order prompted the server to inform me that visiting a Tim Horton’s and including “timbits” automatically initiates the citizenship process in Canada (not true). She went on to state that although continuing this process was entirely voluntary, it is not uncommon for those clearing this initial hurdle to begin unconsciously adopting a uniquely Canadian mindset.
I told her to get “out”, left a Loonie on the counter, pulled on my toque, fist bumped Justin Bieber and Ryan Reynolds on the way out (who were both enjoying beauty double doubles), walked out of Timmies into some glorious sunshine on a 6 degree Celsius morning, and drove a few clicks back to my hotel.
