The Spruce Creek Trailhead is located about 8 minutes South of Breckenridge, Colorado, off Highway 9. Our Review Team rated this trail as being most appropriate for intermediate hikers due to the numerous technical sections and the length. Our Team’s goal was to reach Lower Mohawk Lake which was approximately 7.5 miles round trip and took us a little over 5 hours to complete. The lake is at an elevation of 11,800 feet, so make sure that you’ve brought plenty of water and some snacks. Along the way you’ll discover abandoned mining equipment and structures and, if you’re lucky, you may just spot some sheep wondering why you’re up so high!
We asked Jasper “The Mountain Dog” how she would rate the trail and (through an interpreter) she said it was worthy “of 4 paws” (the highest rating possible).
