Contemporary art. It doesn’t always follow a linear or predictable pattern, does it? Take splatter painting for example. When it works the various colors, drips, and stains can work together. On the other hand, they can also sometimes not.
We had visited Snooze, an A.M. Eatery in Tempe, Arizona, on another occasion and were impressed with how that environment seemed to gel together. Although we had similar hopes for this location, we found it lacking in comparison.
It wasn’t as though any of the core components were poor (food quality, service, or atmosphere). It was more that things seemed random and disjointed. The music seemed angry and worked to cross purposes with that of the meal. It was as if it were an opposing force warring against the meal.
Speaking of the meal, the “Benny Duo” provided a nice alternative to sample two different Eggs Benedict options (we tried the “Ham Benedict III” and “Smashed Avocado Benny”). The “Sandwich I Am” was similar in quality. Good, but worth driving across town for? Not in our estimation.
While this location certainly possesses potential, there is work yet to be done to take it from random colors on a canvas to a work of art you’d want to purchase, display, and attempt to explain the nuances about to friends and family.
And that’s…Henry’s Take.
