San Diego Zoo

The San Diego Zoo (primarily) through the eyes of a 2 year old.

Our adventure actually began on the freeway long before our arrival. We quickly learned that the “pink birds” were of particular importance and that they are also known as “Mingos.”

Our little tour guide was also instructive on other occasions. For example, while in the aquarium we were informed, “There’s Dory. The real one.” I mean, who knew? Now that’s information that an adult can use! 🤯

The size and terrain of the park are not to be underestimated. If you are traveling with little ones the use of a stroller is highly recommended. Bring Your Own Stroller (BYOS) or rent one. If you are traveling with someone with mobility issues the same is recommended. Bring a wheelchair or rent one. The hills are numerous throughout and are not insignificant.

If you’d prefer, they also offer an aerial tram, a non-narrated bus tour, or a guided bus tour.

There are also helpful volunteers throughout the zoo eager to provide assistance.

We were surprised by the number of small play structures scattered about and each received their due attention during our exploration of the grounds.

We made it a little more than 4 hours (including lunch) before the clock’s striking of midnight seemed imminent. Use that bit of information for illustrative purposes only as your experience may vary depending on the temperament of your little tour guide.

While the parking was free, the entrance fees were a little startling. While you probably won’t need to cash out that college fund in order to gain entrance, you might just begin to question if your little tour guide actually HAS to have braces on both his/her upper AND lower teeth. 🤦‍♂️

The cost not withstanding, a great family adventure to be sure.

And that’s…Henry’s Take.
