Recommended to us by Rebecca Alcaida Silva, “Salud!” is a great destination for the true taco enthusiasts out there. Located just outside of downtown San Diego in the Barrio Logan neighborhood, their menu boasts more than 20 tacos for you to choose from (including 5 veggie choices). Several of them are unique enough to raise an eyebrow and peak your curiosity.
I was personally intrigued by the “Chicali Taco” and found it to be one of my favorites. My other favorites were the “Birria Taco” (with the consommé) and the “Fish Taco” (which was one of the best fish tacos I’ve had recently and packed a little kick to keep you on your toes). I found the “Carnitas Taco” and the “Pollo Asado Taco” to also be solid choices.
Be prepared for terrific tortillas and a refreshingly diverse music selection. One series of songs transitioned from Culture Club, to Marco Antonio Solis, to Dianna Ross. While that set list might not appear to work on paper, we were enjoying it during our visit.
You’ll likely need to do a little searching for some street parking, but don’t let that discourage you from giving this place a go.
