Do you think a city has a soul and/or a personality? In our experience, some either seem like they don’t or it isn’t easily discernible.
That isn’t the case with Nashville. It certainly has both. Attempting to describe what Nash is like is a daunting challenge, but we’ll do our best to do it the justice that it deserves.
First things first. While generalizations are an imperfect science, it is fair to state that the vast majority of the locals we interacted with were polite, kind, and genuinely welcoming. Given that 80% of our Review Team traveled from Southern California, the contrasts in the people were stark and made us feel like we were visiting another country. You’ll hear a heartfelt, “I’m so sorry” and “Excuse me” for the most incidental and innocent contact (that likely would generate merely a guttural grunt, if anything, in many other parts of the country).
Part of the vibe in this great city is the slower pace to be enjoyed. People actually pay attention to you while you’re speaking to them. 🤯
Another noteworthy difference is the fashion sense here. Most aren’t necessarily dressing up, but they aren’t dressing down either. There certainly is a Southern charm to how people dress and the theme doesn’t seem to include judging one another (#refreshing). Perhaps it’s partially related to the upscale clothing stores here (Kittenish and Uncommon James, for examples). They feature quality (and pricey) items to be sure, but they lack the pretentious air that you will find at many of their competitors located in other regions of the country.
So you’ll never forget that you’re in Music City, you’ll happen across large metal boxes throughout the city playing tunes for your enjoyment (check out the video we included).
Honestly, the only disappointment I experienced during this trip was the Review Team’s steadfast refusal to refer to me as “Jackson” (my chosen “Country name”). 😡
Nashville is worth your time, so give it a chance y’all! 🤠
And that’s…Henry’s Take.
