Our “2023 Chicago Deep Dish Challenge” continued with a logical next stop at local powerhouse Lou Malnati’s.
Unfortunately our experience failed to rise up to reach the heights of their established positive reputation.
While their deep dish offering wasn’t bad, it was disappointing and failed to impress in any category. The crust was not distinctive or memorable and finishing it felt optional (when the crust of a superior pizza simply demands that you consume every morsel).
While the pizza was forgettable, the staff was not. Although our server was attentive, several other staff members dropped cups, silverware, and bowls so frequently as to actually distract from our meal. Also, their loud shouting and laughing amongst themselves made it appear that they were unaware that customers were even present and they acted as if they were in their college dorms or their personal living rooms.
We hope to facilitate a “2024 Chicago Deep Dish Challenge” and sadly Lou’s will not be a participant.
