Chicago Botanic Garden “Lightscape”

So how do you transition into the Christmas spirit each holiday season?  Is it a switch that gets flipped immediately after Halloween, or does it sneak up on you gradually as you begin decorating your home and buying gifts for others?

For me, the Christmas season doesn’t begin until December 1st and I’ll obstinately resist any Christmas urges until then. It’s been that way for as long as I can remember.  However, this year was different. We visited the Chicago Botanic Garden the day before Thanksgiving and their seasonal “Lightscape” immediately transported my mood to be in mid-holiday form well ahead of schedule.

Perhaps it was how the carefully choreographed music complemented the light show, or perhaps it was the snow flurries gently falling from the sky.  No matter the reason, I was helpless to fight the mood shift and my brief resistance proved futile.  Christmas was officially ON!

This entirely outdoor spectacle meanders along a 1.3-mile path and each turn reveals another imaginative artistic display.  Although music accompanies several of the displays, a Christmas playlist is also available to be played on your phone throughout your journey.

Festive food, drinks, and s’mores are available for purchase and opportunities for romance abound.

These festivities are sure to rescue you from the bah humbug blues and run through January 4th.

And that’s…Henry’s Take.
