Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

When planning a visit to Colorado Springs you probably didn’t add visiting the zoo to your list of “to do’s”, and yet here it is. Daring you to give it a try, and you should!

Located right at the edge of Cheyenne Mountain, this medium sized zoo actually offers more than you think it might. All of the facilities are well maintained and laid out in an attractive fashion that is easily accessible.

You should know that reservations are required (but can easily be secured online). There are multiple opportunities to directly engage with some of the animals (some are free and others have a nominal cost attached to them). I have to admit that stroking the nose of a giraffe was quite unexpected and strangely satisfying.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that some of the animals seemed pensive and that this stirred mixed feelings amongst our Review Team as we pondered the practice of caging and restricting the free movement of wild animals. Please note that all of the animals seemed very well taken care of, we just wondered if some of the habitats could be enlarged to increase the ability of the animals to roam more freely.

We found that approximately 3 hours is sufficient to fully experience this zoo and that it is highly appropriate for small children and adults alike.

And that’s…Henry’s Take.
