There are many ways to evaluate the quality of a hotel and the diversity of amenities is certainly one of them. While the Buffalo Marriott offers great views, a good restaurant, gym, and a quality M Club Lounge, many hotels offer similar comforts and benefits. Where it distinguishes itself from its competition is in at least three ways.
First, it provides direct interior access to the Southern Tier Brewery. While avoiding venturing outside might seem frivolous, when the wind is blowing off Lake Erie at 50 mph (and the wind chill drops into single digits), these conveniences grow exponentially in importance. There are a few restaurants within walking distance, but as we discovered during our visit, many of them shutter their doors when the weather becomes formidable. Having meal options that do not require venturing outside during a Buffalo Winter is like traveling abroad and arriving with some of the local currency already in your pocket.
Second, it also provides direct interior access to the LECOM Harborcenter Hockey Rink which hosts players ranging from youth teams all the way through serving as the official practice facility of the NHL Buffalo Sabres. Entrance is free and we stopped by nearly every day just to “check” on the action. 🏒
Finally, be sure to cast your gaze Westward at night (either from your room or the Panorama on Seven restaurant) in order to catch a glimpse of the General Mills light show. What appears to be a rather drab commercial building during the day reveals its chameleon tendencies at night when it transitions into an impressive and colorful spectacle.
And that’s…Henry’s Take.
